Abstract

Obesity bears psychological and social consequences for adolescences, such as an increase in depression of
being denied or isolated by their peers. Poor peer support makes obese people feel lonely and anti-social
behavior. The study aims to map the peer support obtained by obese students at Diploma III Keperawatan
Sutopo Surabaya. It is a descriptive study. The population is 116 students and were all appointed as the
research participants (total sampling). The research variable is peer support. The data were collected using
a questionnaire, analyzed, and presented in distribution tables. The study reveals that 102 (88%) students
provide poor support to their obese colleagues. The study concludes that obese students obtained poor support
from their peers. The study recommends that students need to support their obese friends by informing them
with information and supports how to overcome obesity
